Additive Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert Panel

December 6, 2022 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM (EST)

Description

The IN3 team will chair an Additive Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert panel to discuss the wide-ranging AM applications across DoD, including proposing new solutions for applying the technology in Multi-Domain Operations. Additive manufacturing (AM) is now applied effectively on Navy ships at sea, in austere environments with Marines, at Army advanced manufacturing sites and on hospital ships serving humanitarian missions.

Our panel of experts includes:

Mr. Eric St Ours is a Mechanical Engineer at NSWC Crane in the Airborne Electronic Attack Systems division with a subject matter focus on Additive Manufacturing (AM). Eric has supported NSWC Crane and the warfighter through his broad, technical knowledge of the AM field as well as the designing and/or production of thousands of AM parts. He is a representative to the NAVSEA AM Warfare Center Working Group (AM WCWG) which provides an avenue for AM collaboration between the NAVSEA Warfare Centers and helps to guide and mature AM adoption through work with the NAVSEA 05T technology office.

Matthew Kelly, PhD, is an Additive Manufacturing Technologist for the US Army's Ground Vehicle Systems Center (DEVCOM). Matt is the lead for the Jointless Hull project that is producing the world's largest freeform metal printing capability at 30' x 20' x 12'. Currently GVSC is partnered with Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and IN3 to develop the Advanced Manufacturing Commercialization Center (AMCC) in Sterling Heights, Michigan, that will house a smaller version (3' x 3' x 3') of this printing capability, along with other advanced manufacturing technologies. Matt will speak to the ongoing developments with the AMCC and discuss opportunities for collaboration.

Mr. Eric Shnell, has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC San Diego and is the Founder/CEO of Craitor. He has contributed to research in additive manufacturing, bio-inspired robotics, and satellite design, and was recognized as a Gordon Fellow in 2019. With Craitor, Eric and his team are committed to bringing expeditionary 3D printing to the US armed forces to reduce the strain on the DoD supply chain, while providing enhanced capabilities in the field. A firm believer in collaboration, Eric enjoys finding new ways to connect people and technology to solve problems.

Mr. Zach Lichaa, is the President of Taulman3D, one the world's leading additive manufacturing (AM) feedstock companies. He has spent nearly a decade focused on the development, production and distribution of advanced materials for AM, as well as investing in facilities which build out American manufacturing capabilities in the sector. Taulman3D's clients include hundreds of US Federal, State and Local agencies, the British Ministry of Defence and various prime and sub-contractors working on active DoD contracts.
