Description

Problem Solving Using PDCA, A3, and Root Cause Analysis

Date: February 26, 2026
Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Registration Deadline: February 19, 2026
Instructor: Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP)
Format: In-person, full-day workshop (8 hours)

Event Description:
Manufacturing teams are constantly solving problems- but without a structured approach, solutions often address symptoms rather than root causes. This full-day workshop, led by Purdue MEP, equips participants with a practical, repeatable method for solving problems effectively and sustainably.

Participants will learn how to apply the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) problem-solving framework and supporting tools such as A3 problem solving, root cause analysis, process mapping, and cause-and-effect diagrams. The course focuses on real-world manufacturing scenarios and provides hands-on techniques that can be applied immediately on the shop floor or in operational decision-making.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to clearly define problems, identify true root causes, and implement corrective actions that drive continuous improvement.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn how to:

  • Define what a “problem” is and identify essential problem-solving skills
  • Recognize common barriers to effective problem solving
  • Understand the benefits of a structured problem-solving approach
  • Use the A3 problem-solving format
  • Apply each step of the PDCA cycle effectively
  • Distinguish between root causes and symptoms
  • Utilize common problem-solving tools to support data-driven decisions

Who Should Attend:
Manufacturing personnel at all levels, including operators, supervisors, engineers, continuous improvement teams, and leaders who want to build or strengthen their problem-solving capabilities.

Why Attend:
This workshop provides a proven framework for improving operational performance, reducing recurring issues, and strengthening a culture of continuous improvement across your organization.
