Description
Every successful business starts with a solid foundation. Whether you’re thinking about launching a side hustle, opening a storefront, or turning a passion into a profession, this class will guide you through the essential steps to start strong.
This hands-on workshop covers the basics of starting any kind of business—from evaluating whether now is the right time, to forming your legal entity, and preparing to tackle the common pitfalls that derail early-stage entrepreneurs. Every business is unique, but there are critical areas that apply to every business—and addressing them early will increase your chances of long-term success.
In this session, Southwest Indiana SBDC Business Advisors will help you understand:
- Your personal and professional readiness to start a business
- How to evaluate your business idea for both viability and feasibility
- How to perform market research and assess your competition
- Steps to properly name, structure, and register your business in Indiana
- Startup costs, funding options, and how to begin building financial projections
- The purpose and structure of a business plan—and how it helps you make smart decisions
Upon registration, you’ll receive a link to materials including a digital workbook: “Guide to Starting a Business.” Printed materials are provided at the beginning of this session.
After the workshop, participants are invited to schedule 1:1, no-cost advising with an SBDC Business Advisor for help refining their business concept or preparing to apply for funding.
This event is being held in-person at the Friedman Park Event Center, 2700 Park Blvd, Newburgh, IN.
