VOLUNTEER - Ronald McDonald House Charities, Meals of Love Program
Volunteer Your Time to one of the Ronald McDonald Houses (Gateway or Washington)
In the last year, volunteers contributed more than 12,000 hours of their time to support RMHC of the Ohio Valley programs. Their gifts of love and compassion make this house more than just a place to stay. They truly are the heart of our charity. Volunteers perform numerous duties around the house. Some of these tasks include:
- Assisting families at the front desk
- Cleaning common areas and guest rooms
- Preparing pop tabs for recycling
- Spruce up the courtyard
- Rolling the Happy Wheels Cart at area hospitals and medical facilities

Provide a Meal: Meals of Love Program
Volunteering with our Meals of Love program is a meaningful way to support families during challenging times. A home-cooked meal can provide comfort after long days at the hospital. This program is perfect for groups—friends, coworkers, church members, or civic organizations—to give back while enjoying time together.
How to Sign Up:
- Create a free account on our Meal Train calendar. https://rmhcohiovalley.org/ways-to-help/mealsoflove/
- Schedule a date that works for you and your group. If your preferred date is unavailable, consider donating a meal that can be frozen for later use.
Quick Tips:
- Number of Meals: Cook for 15-20 people at Washington Avenue House and 28-30 at Gateway House. Call a day in advance to confirm occupancy.
- Kitchen Supplies: Both houses have pots, pans, and cooking utensils. Bring all main ingredients; we provide pantry staples (flour, sugar, seasonings).
- Meal Timing: Families may not be present during mealtimes due to medical needs, but meals can be reheated.
- Grilling: A gas grill is available at Washington Avenue House.
- Serving Times: Breakfast by 8 a.m., brunch by 10 a.m., lunch by 12 p.m., and dinner by 6 p.m.
- Menu Coordination: Include your menu when signing up to avoid meal duplication; please submit at least one week in advance.
- Group Size: Meal groups should not exceed 8-10 people.
