Evansville Philharmonic Continues Holiday Tradition with Handel's Messiah

The Evansville Philharmonic continues its holiday tradition with two performances of Handel’s beloved oratorio Messiah. Preserving one of the Orchestra’s most treasured holiday traditions, performances will occur at Trinity United Methodist Church located at Third & Walnut Streets in downtown Evansville on Friday, December 20, at 7:00 PM and in St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 1029 Kundek in Jasper, Indiana, on Saturday, December 21, at 7:00 PM (EST).


Under the direction of Evansville Philharmonic Conductor Roger Kalia, the baroque-size orchestra drawn from the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will join forces with voices from the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus and three accomplished soloists to present this18th century masterpiece in its traditional setting.


Both sanctuaries will be bathed in candlelight as concertgoers experience the warmth and power of the Messiah. Highlights will include “For Unto Us a Child Is Born,” “The Trumpet Shall Sound,” and the famous “Hallelujah Chorus.” 


Soprano Caroline Goodwin has been described as “filament fine but powerful” vocals  and full of “rising star sparkle.” As an emerging young artist, Caroline has shown herself to be a versatile musician and performer.


Tenor Eric Ferring is a native of Dubuque, Iowa, a 2022 George London Foundation Award Winner, and the Top Prize Winner of the 2022 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition. Ferring’s 2024-2025 season includes his LA Phil debut.


Baritone Zachary Coates has given recitals across the US and internationally, presenting monoliths of the genre like Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin as well as music by contemporary and underrepresented composers.
