Morton Solar receives Technical Assistance Grant from USDA

The grant will help fund the program for the next three years at various locations in Indiana with the goal of educating farmers and small businesses about how to navigate and apply for the USDA Rural Energy for America Program.

Morton Solar has been awarded a TAG (Technical Assistance Grant) for $171,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for implementing the solar informational program ‘Solar is for Everyone’. The grant will help fund the program for the next three years at various locations in Indiana with the goal of educating farmers and small businesses about how to navigate and apply for the USDA Rural Energy for America Program. This program now awards up to 50% for renewable energy and/or energy efficiency projects and can be combined with the new IRA tax credits.

The first USDA funded ‘Solar is for Everyone’ event will be this Saturday at 10am at the Newburgh-Chandler Public Library on Bell Road in Newburgh. All farmers & small business owners in the area are encouraged to register and attend the event to see if they are eligible for a USDA REAP Grant and learn how to apply. A virtual link will also be provided for those that can’t attend in person.

The program will also discuss the new IRA tax credits that are available to churches and non-profits and those entities are encouraged to attend as well.

Morton Solar has been highly successful with the USDA REAP Grant program over the last 15 years and has won grants for numerous small businesses in the area totaling approximately $750,000. The overall impact of these projects have lowered the ongoing yearly operating expenses of these businesses by thousands of dollars and reduced the region’s emissions by hundreds of tons of CO2 per year.

"We are honored to have received the award from the USDA and will get to work immediately on getting the word out to small business owners and farmers across the region." said Brad Morton, President of Morton Solar.
